The BNP are denying any involvement with the EDL, yet at least 2 BNP councillors from Stoke-on-Trent City Council were present at the EDL rally in Hanley on 23 January On his personal blog, Councillor Mike Barnes writes, [quote]The BNP apparently are denying any involvement or attendance of the English Defence League Rally in Stoke-on-Trent on January 23 2010. Well take a close look at this picture I took and posted on my twitter as it happened.

This week mark’s the last instalment payment by Stoke City Football Club to Stoke-on-Trent City Council. It seems incredible that over 18 months ago councillors found out about the instalments arrangement and began asking questions. When they got no answers I wrote to the Audit Commission to investigate. It started out with simple questions:

VIDEO INTERVIEW The Head of the Press and Communications Department at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Dan Barton was heavily criticised by the Chair of the Transformation & Resources Committee Roger Ibbs, for his no show at a meeting to scrutinise his departmental strategy and 3year plan. Head of Member Services Elaine Bates along with Terry Follows the Cabinet Member with responsibility for Communications did their best to answer members questions and grievances but both looked grossly under

How appropriate that just as we have the first cold snap of the winter period the City Council proposes to slash the number of roads that are gritted by nearly half, to save £100,000 per year. At a meeting on Wednesday, finance officers responded to councillors concerns with the well rehearsed line, “We are going to have to make some tough choices this year!”. We. WE!

Does anybody believe the report agreed by Cabinet is anything more than a public relations exercise to try and convince us all that something is still happening in Hanley? Over the years we, the taxpayer, have paid for endless studies and consultations. We have be presented with great plans and artists impressions.

Senior Council Directors and managers have submitted a proposed list of cuts to be scheduled in over the next three years. Despite the eye catching headline in today's Sentinel  of '£45 million cuts over next three years' these proposals are only suggested areas and facilities that could be cut or closed and it is important to emphasise that no final decision has been taken.

Yesterday’s Full Council Meeting started of in a very positive fashion, unfortunately that didn’t last long. The Lord Mayor presented the Director of Adult Social Care, Health & Communities, Tony Oakman & members of his staff two awards in recognition of the excellent standards of care delivered by the department. Members Questions

The decision to axe 240 council jobs through voluntary redundancy was approved yesterday. As reported in today’s Sentinel.

How do we measure how good a councillor is? What I think is good may not be what you think is good. I have never had to ask my councillor to help me with anything (although he can expect a call about the broken drains shortly) so I can't use this as a gauge. It is very easy to say 'all the councillors are rubbish because [insert reason]', pretty much everyone who comes on this site has an opinion.

If you’ve read this blog for a while you will know by now that I am no fan of the BNP. Don’t get me wrong I would fight for their right to exist and for your right to vote for them. That is what makes our country great, a democracy built on the principles of free speech.
