The official opening of Lodge Road Park, Penkhull, at the bottom of St Christopher’s Ave, will take place on Saturday 4 September 2010 from 11:00am - 3pm. The event will be an all-day occasion and will combine a free fun-day with Community Consultation and will be officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Councillor Denver Tolley, midday. Performers across Stoke-on-Trent are being encouraged to audition for a unique role allowing them to become part of the upcoming London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games cultural celebrations. Young dancers and performers will be recruited by London 2012 Cultural Olympiad project Imagineer to take part in a production called ‘Godiva Awakes’ which will include a 10 metre high Lady Godiva who will awake from her sleeping chamber during a performance in Coventry during July 2012.

Haywood Engineering College will be getting into the cultural spirit of the 2012Olympic Games this week when their Community Games Festival takes onan ‘Alice in Wonderland’ theme. A variety of games and activities inspired by real Olympic events will takeplace during the event from 11am to 4pm.


This year is the 100th anniversary of the Federation of the towns that became Stoke on Trent. In this centenary year some of us who write for Pits n Pots are asking question s about the future direction of the City.

Today we spoke to Max Caller from the Local Government Boundaries Commission. I asked him to explain a little bit about the Boundaries Commission and the job they do and how that will affect Stoke on Trent's Council Ward boundaries. The Poor Cnights of St Chad

Today saw the Saxons land at Etruria, just outside the Industrial Museum to be exact. After reading about their imminent arrival her on pitsnpots, I added the date to my diary and we headed on down. The Saxons were in fact the Poor Cnichts of St.Chad, a Saxon/Viking re-enactment group based in Staffordshire. The weather looked a bit iffy but we and quite a few other folk decided to brave it and pop down to see the Saxon Warriors and maidens.

Hanley Fire Station was open to the public today with a farewell open day. Fire Fighters put on various displays including, rescue demonstrations, using cherry pickers and harnesses, and how to put out a chip pan fire. The public were able to sit in a fire trucks which were displaying their equipment such as hoses and winching gear.
