The Deputy Leader of the British National Party has resigned with immediate effect. Simon Darby fought the Stoke-on-Trent Central seat for the far right party at the recent General Election.

Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party Gordon Brown has announced that he is to step down. He is to ask the Labour Party to initiate the process for a leadership election and confirmed he will not stand or intervene.
