Schools across Stoke-on-Trent are looking for people to become School Governors There are a number of schools who are currently looking for new governors across the city, we have been told that there are at least 25 vacancies that need to be filled. No special qualifications are required, but you must be 18 or over on the date when you are elected or appointed. Enthusiasm, commitment and an interest in education are the most important qualities.

Once upon a time you would be hard pressed to find a more solid Labour stronghold than Stoke-on-Trent. The potteries, the mines, and the steel works gave birth to a close-knit working class that produced generations of Labour party activists who absolutely dominated the city's politics. But all that began to change when the wind of deindustrialisation blew through North Staffordshire. The pits and steel mill are gone, and the ceramics industry is but a pale shadow of a former colossus.

With work ending on 11 of Stoke-on-Trent’s children’s play areas, a second sum of money as been given to the council, to improve or build another 10. This will make a total of £1.1 million spent over the 2 year on these play grounds. Work will be completed on the first 11 facilities by the end of this month. Work on the other 11 must be completed by the end of March 2011 or the grant may be withheld.

Just before Christmas the Queens Park Partnership learnt that their application for £49,000 of Lottery funding to restore the park’s lakes had been successful. The works will include the provision of a fountain in the bottom lake, facilities for fishing, pond dipping opportunities in the cascade as well as improvements to the water outflow. This will improve water quality and provide additional wildlife habitats. Work on the scheme started last week (week beginning 8 March).

Today I had the good fortune to drive one of the car loads of Trentham High pupils to Stafford magistrates court for a schools competition. Pupils took roles in a mock trial, conducted in real court rooms, from a brief they had been given and prepared for in advance.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for the mother of the new born baby found outside the Islamic Centre in Shelton on Saturday to Come forward. Detectives are renewing their appeal for the mother of a baby left outside a mosque in Stoke-on-Trent to come forward. Tomorrow, Saturday 13 March, marks the one week anniversary of the baby being left outside the Islamic Centre in Shelton. Police officers will be carrying out high visibility patrols in the Beresford Street area from around 6am onwards,

Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Clean Air Superheroes are hoping that people spring clean the air by pledging to use greener forms of transport. The campaign, featuring Fiona Freeze, Travis the Time Traveller and Oxy-Gen the Super tree is currently taking place at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery The characters have been created along with the evil “Professor Pollutant”, to highlight the issues of air pollution within the city and get people to try and find better greener ways to travel, to
