Operation Nemesis - Cannabis Factory Uncovered In Etruria
Police have arrested a man on suspicion of being concerned in the cultivation of cannabis.
Officers were called to Mere Side Close, Etruria, yesterday evening (1 February) following a call from a concerned member of the public reporting suspicious activity at an address in the street. This property was also the only one which did not have a roof covered in snow on Sunday morning.
After attending the location officers arrested a 22-year-old male in the vicinity on suspicion of cultivating cannabis. He remains in police custody where he will be questioned.
Officers are at the address this morning and have recovered approximately 350 cannabis plants at various stages of cultivation. The loft, garage and upstairs rooms of the property have all been used to grow cannabis plants.
Inspector Martin Brereton, commander of Burslem Neighbourhood Policing Unit, which covers Etruria, said, 'Thanks to a member of the public, who was rightly suspicious of the activities at this address, we have arrested a man at the scene. The fact that snow had melted so quickly from the roof of this address raised concern that intense heat was coming from the property. I would like to thank members of the public for letting us know their concerns about suspicious activity involving drug misuse in their community. We will endeavour to act on all information received.'
Police and Crimestoppers say the following are some of the tell tale signs of properties being used for growing cannabis.
- Windows permanently covered from the inside
- Visits to the premises at unusual times of the day or night
- People visiting just to “maintain” the house
- Daily or weekly calls at the house by people who stay for a short time
- Black bin bags or laundry bags being taken away
- Compost bags or gardening equipment left outside, usually at the rear of the premises
- Vents protruding through the roof or a rear window
- Strange, pungent smells from the premises
- Unusual noises from equipment such as cooling fans
Anyone with information about the supply of drugs is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 0300 123 4455 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Just bloody legalise it you
Just bloody legalise it you bastards, sick and tired of tax payers money being wasted on the prohibition of this "drug" Jesus christ, we are brainwashed from all angles to use one highly addictive and extremely harmful drug (alcohol) if ANY drug needs to be labelled as a 'killer' or 'evil' then surely alcohol deserves it FAR more than cannabis does,
there has never been ONE recorded death anywhere in the world as a direct result of smoking cannabis, there is NO 'overdose' amount,
taxes could be earned, millions of pounds in police and court time would be saved, prison spaces would be freed up for REAL criminals, JOBS would be created, criminal gang activity would be reduced,
One thing is certain, it's NOT going away, the police (despite the propaganda) have lost "the war on drugs"
HOW LONG are we going to allow this waste of tax payers money to continue?
Madness sheer bloody madness,

What a crass statement "there
What a crass statement "there has never been ONE recorded death anywhere in the world as a direct result of smoking cannabis, there is NO 'overdose' amount" what proof have you?
What about those who suffer from paranoia and mental poblems after using this shit.
I don't condone the abuse of alchohol niether.
This creates enough problems from people too immature to drink responsibly.
The type of cannabis (skunk) produced today bears no resemblance in strength to the cannabis of the 60s, and its effects are far more serious.
You have obviously not seen the end result of kids smoking this garbage.
This is just a starting block for many of our kids on to harder drugs.
Personally I would birch the dealers.
Thanks Terry, I think that is
Thanks Terry, I think that is standard issue responses #1, 2 and 3,
where to start?
ok, it's only a medical fact that it is impossible to overdose by smoking cannabis (google cannabis overdose amount )
there are a small percentage of cases of people who develope 'psychological' problems ( when compared to the millions of regular users in the UK alone) and even in those cases there is little or no evidence that these people would not have developed these problems with or without using cannabis, Certainly SOME of them would (some had 'problems' BEFORE smoking it) again reducing the tiny percentage with problems,
Where did I say I condone it's use by kids? on the contrary, I believe that the age limit for any drug, including alcohol should be raised to 21, and that suppling any drug to persons under that age should carry a jail sentence, furthermore I think under 18s should not be allowed into pubs, (as this 'normalises' drug usage)
IF Cannabis was legal it would be sold from licenced outlets, making it harder, not easier for 'kids' to get hold of, the penalties for 'back street dealers' would be increased, and anyway they would disappear if we were allowed to grow a small amount for personal use,
ALL the same restrictions that apply to alcohol would apply to cannabis, driving/workplace etc,
and WHY is it that, one is only able to use alcohol sensibility "I am opposed to alcohol abuse" but the same is not so for cannabis?
(because I am oposed to cannabis abuse if you like,)
and THE oldest chestnut in the book, the old "gateway drug" excuse, LOTS of 'hard drug' users may well have, or DO smoke cannabis, but I would be willing to bet the FIRST 'drug' they got 'off their heads' on was alcohol,
and while it's true many hard drug users (alcohol heroin cocaine) also smoke cannabis, the majority of cannabis smokers dont use hard drugs,
so if you want to use the 'leads to harder stuff' argument as an excuse for prohibition I suggest you start with a REAL "killer" drug, the wet drug, ah BUT one is an "alcoholic" and NOT a drug addict and it's "an illness" not an addiction, and it's "drink AND drugs" not just drugs,
the fat controllers have done a truly excellent job on the 'sheeple"
After the Doctor David Nutt disgrace, you know the eminent medical scientist employed by the Labour government to give his EXPERT advice, and was sacked for giving the wrong advice?
( that cannabis should NOT be re classified to class "B")
Alan Johnson was asked why he ignored this advice from the expert and sacked him,
he said, " it is a matter of culture and tradition" outbloodyrageous but true,
BILLIONS of pounds of OUR money being wasted, otherwise law abiding people being criminalised, because of "culture and tradition" NOTHING to do with the red herring of health issues,
it is ALL about keeping us using the "official state backed" drug and protecting the profits of the states drug pushers, the drinks cartel,
California in the US is about to become the first state in the US to legalise it for recreational purposes, some senators are opposed but most are in favour,
God bless the USA.
EDIT,
hehe never before has my "sig" been so IN context

Well done Owd Potter you have
Well done Owd Potter you have done a good job of representing the logically correct argument concerning cannabis legalisation.
Terry turbo, you ask for proof, search for it yourself, there is plenty out there. Stop believing what the mainstream TV news channels tell you and look at scientific papers regarding drug research. I have and as a well educated, contributing member of society who surprise, surprise uses cannabis recreationally with no adverse mental effects, I can tell you that you are talking bull.
Also if prohibition is the way to go, how the hell do kids get hold of it so easily? It's a naturally occurring herb (with plenty of nutritional, environmental and medical benefits), you will never be able to rid it from the streets.
I don't get my information
I don't get my information from the TV or media, I get it from personal experience.
Don't give me the shit that it does not effect its users, or are you "an educated person" saying that pumping chemicals into your lungs and bloodstream is ok?
By that logic smoking and cocaine is ok,or is that your next step?
There is plenty of evidence that this crap affects the brain, so is not benificial, and has an adverse affection on the mind.
Just because it may not affect everyone the same does not make it dangerous.
Ectasy is a classic example of this rule some it as killed while others are uneffected by it, so by your logic this drug should be legalised.
As for being able to get this "nutritional" substance this is down to soft "punishment" by the system.
I agree that it may have medical benifits and should be given to patients it helps, but draw the line at so called "social relaxation".
I have a hatred of drug dealers and would personaly pull the lever on them.
I don't need drugs in any form to take on life.
I think you approach the
I think you approach the argument from entirely the wrong angle Terry. We are adults, are we not? Is it too much to ask we be treated as such? In my youth I dabbled in most class A / B drugs. I never became the archetypal social problem. Never robbed anyone, never raped anyone, never killed anyone... laughed my tits off and had a great time however. Then I became a man and put childish things away.
It does not help the debate to label anything and everything Her Majesty deems "verboten" as shit. Domestic violence is an endemic problem in our society, men beating their female partners in the main. Which substance is, by a long way, easily most responsible for this? The one you can legally obtain on any street corner.
I fully understand your concerns over all mind altering substances. I cannot accept for one second they give you the right to shut down the debate though.

"The skeleton of our complete freedom is already formed.

I have no intention of trying
I have no intention of trying to shut down debate on this subject.
Since seeing a young man lying on the floor dead as -in my opinion- a direct result of this drug I know I cannot debate it, and find it impossable to be compassionate.
I saw a young man grow up then a scumbag started him on skunk he became paranoid, and schizophrenic and his life became hell.
He then tried Heroin and killed himself with his first attempt.
That lad was my 21 year old son so a I will pull out of this debate.
I'm a father Terry, if that
I'm a father Terry, if that is the case my heart goes out to you.
Present policy in the UK is damaging more kids than it is helping though. What we really need to do is take the market from the gangsters. Conspiracy, conspiracy, conspiracy. Look at Afghanistan, ten years with the American and British military and still no end to the heroin market... someone's watching over them... I wonder who?
Cannabis is by no means heroin Terry. Another false argument that gets in the way of rational debate.
--------------------------------------------------------
"The skeleton of our complete freedom is already formed.
The flesh and the clothing are lacking".
I am truly sorry to hear
I am truly sorry to hear about your son Terry and with that in mind I can understand your position on the drugs argument,
My own father died of alcohol addiction, but I would not wish to see this particular "killer drug" banned,
what I WOULD like however, is for their to be more "control" over ALL drugs, legal or otherwise,
as long as drugs remain outside the law they will never be under control,
unscrupulous dealers mix it with all sorts of shit in order to "bulk" it out so they can earn more money, dirty needles also increase the risk, the fact that SOME drug use is stigmatised and criminalised is the biggest contributing factor when it comes to deaths,
I am in no way advocating drug use...not even alcohol,
the very illegality of some drugs makes them attractive to some users, IF it were possible to go into a legally licensed outlet, where the product is strictly monitored and checked, and people were in a position to make informed choices (adults over the age of 21) and some of the revenue from sales was used to set up a support network, without being judgemental, and better more factual less hysterical education on the topic was in place, I am sure that we would see a marked decrease in deaths from overdoses and contaminated "gear" not to mention the drastic affect it would have on lowering drug and drug gang related crimes
believe me, the LAST people who want to see it legalised are the dealers,
Cannabis, I believe, is a separate issue altogether the evidence of "harm" for this "drug" pales into insignificance when compared to harder drugs such as alcohol, and using this alone as a reason for not legalising it is ridiculous, even Alan Johnson had to admit that it is for "cultural and traditional" reasons that he would not de-criminalise it, nothing at ALL to do with 'health risks'
people say it is the "gateway drug" I say this is bullshit, if ANY drug is a "gateway drug" it HAS to be alcohol,
Portugal has the most liberal drug laws in Europe, they took the step of decriminalising ALL drug use in 2001,...did society collapse? are hospitals, jails and grave yards full of young people?

as I said before, we can carry on burying our head in the sand in hope that this problem will just go away, and keep spending billions of pounds of tax payers money in a "war" we CANT win,
or we can clear the table, and have a serious open and non biased adult intelligent informed re-think on the whole issue,

As I said, my position on
As I said, my position on drugs is I know biased, and I find it difficult to debate this subject rationaly, as my hatred of drug dealers and drugs comes to the surface.
Which is why I will back out fom this debate.
I appreciate you both have a point of view.
Johntoe, two words... pissing
Johntoe, two words... pissing and wind. This emotional black-mail is getting tiresome.
As a father, your personal tragedy is truly dreadful Terry. Why not harness it though? Wrench something useful and constructive from it. I am often slagged off, called an apologist for drugs. No way!
I used to tuck my kids in at night, and by the glow of their Donald Duck light, I'd frighten myself with the thought of my little ones burning.
Why on earth would someone like myself want our kids hooked on drugs? I'm simply saying that our present approach is failing them. Surely, if we put our heads together, we will come up with something better?
--------------------------------------------------------
"The skeleton of our complete freedom is already formed.
The flesh and the clothing are lacking".
Terry, I can understand your
Terry, I can understand your hatred of drug dealers, I for a while after the death of my father, almost began to hate drink and drink dealers, especially the particular pushers who peddled their evil filth to my father, they were well aware that he was an addict some of them were even aware of the fact that it was killing him, Did knowing these things ever stop them from selling him his "fix"?
I can guess what their answers would have been had I asked them to explain their actions,
"he is an adult" "I am NOT responsible for him" "I sell alcohol I am not a doctor or his mother, it's his job to monitor his own health and consumption of alcohol not mine, he knows the score" etc, oh and, "I am just doing my job"
and, when the drug in question is alcohol, ALL those answers would be accepted by most people as perfectly reasonable,
BUT, such is the power of the media in forming our opinions FOR us, some might call it brainwashing, change the drug from alcohol to heroin, and suddenly it's ALL the dirty pushers fault, and the addict becomes the evil pushers helpless victim,
the link I posted before about Portugal is not some made up piece of fiction, they tried a different approach and it can ONLY be called a resonding success, hard drug usage dropped, drug related crime dropped, a slight increase in cannabis use, the number of hard drug addicts seeking help to quit DOUBLED because they were no longer treated as criminals,
millions in tax payers money was saved, the police had more time and money to spend on other crimes, and Portugal has NO intention of going back to their pre 2001 drug laws,
there HAS to be a lesson there.
anyway, I think I have laboured the point to death now, so I will leave it at that.
But, I will continue to argue for a re-think of the drug laws, and our attitudes towards ALL drug, legal or otherwise, every time the subject comes up, no doubt to some of the hard of thinkers this will make me 'pro drug use' I can't help that.

Jesus Christ,..."poor taste" you couldn't make it up, no offence but here we have Mike with an avatar of him drinking (what I assume to be ) alcohol, a DRUG that kills hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people a year,
and an advert for "weed" a "drug" that has never killed anyone, is deemed "poor taste"...
and I take is as I was the first to "comment" on this article then it's my comment that is referred to as a "stray spam" comment,? it seems that we are ALL to share the same opinions then?
