Children’s Centre Play Area Has Makeover And Becomes Eco-Friendly
Westfield Children’s Centre and Nursery School in Longton has transformed their existing outdoor play facilities into a new natural play area.
The play space, designed and built by local environmental and regeneration charity Groundwork Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire is made of all naturally occurring materials and includes features such as play hills, tunnels, dens as well as state-of-the-art sensory equipment.
The interactive, natural equipment helps to spark a child’s imagination and creativity as well as being accessible to all children including those with additional needs.
Andrew Wilshaw, Community Development Officer for Westfield Children’s Centre commented
The facility will be opened by the Lord Mayor, Lady Mayoress and local MP Rob Flello at 1.30pm on Monday 19 July. Attendees will include Westfield Nursery School, the children’s centre parent forum and children of the Tiny Toez Nursery.
Councillor Debra Gratton, Cabinet member for Children’s Services at Stoke-on-Trent City Council said:
[quote}“Being a parent myself, it’s great that our children’s centres are listening and responding to the feedback from local parents.
“Safe, clean and interactive spaces like this one are a great way of helping children to develop their senses as well as helping parents bond with their child.”[/quote]
The play space will be open to all Children's Centre users and children at Westfield Nursery School and Tiny Toez Nursery School.
