Oxford will open Saturday ““ “We Promise”

By Pits’n’Pots reporter

After fire safety issues delayed the reopening of a well known music venue three weeks ago, the new tenants are now assuring people it will be open for business on Saturday ““ for sure.

The Oxford Arms in May Bank shut down several months ago and was due to reopen under new landlords Matt Taylor and Ross Lawton on May 2, but health and safety issues stopped the duo following through with the inaugural night which was to feature previous favourites Dave Day and the Mudsharks.

But now, work has been carried out to satisfy the authorities which means the renowned music venue will be able to pull its first pints at an opening party this Saturday night (May 23).

Included in the line-up on the night are local indie/rockers Hunting for Bambi who promise an energetic set of rock favourites, backed up by Phil Wagg and Gareth Powell, two talented local musicians performing acoustic sets,

Licensee Matt Taylor said:

“We would like to apologise to anyone who was either disappointed or inconvenienced when we weren’t able to open on May 2. But it was totally beyond our control.

“However, on Saturday we have some great musicians and a really fun band on the bill. So I hope anyone who was planning to come when we hoped to open first, and anyone else who loves live music will come along to what we expect will be a memorable night.

“We have what I think is an exciting programme of gigs planned for the next few months and I am opitmistic about The Oxford returning to be the popular music spot it once was, and deserves to be again.”

The Oxford Arms will open this Saturday at 7pm, with a charge of £2 to get into the live music room, or free entry to the bar.

After the weekend, Matt and Ross are planning a schedule of live music including regular well-known bands on Thursdays, covers bands and tribute acts on Saturdays, as well as a karaoke night on a Friday, to allow the locals their stint under the lights.

From next month, they will also be adding a night for local originals bands to showcase their material, on Tuesdays. This will start from June 23 when Tremolo Studios presents The Liabilities and Molotov Revival with a £3 charge on the door.
